ANDREWS, Ind. (WANE) – A woman discovered brown tap water while cleaning potatoes in Andrews.
Andrews’ former utility and maintenance operator tells us that this brown water comes from old, rusty water pipes.
This is a known issue with Andrews City Council. the city website has photos of the rusting water pipes saying “It is imperative that the City obtain funding in order to begin making improvements to our water infrastructure.”
In the past, residents received “boil water advisories” when the quality dropped. However, none were in place for this latest occurrence of murky water.
The event brings back fresh memories for many community members about other water-related issues. In 2020, the city had to completely get rid of city water for a while. You can catch up on past issues with these items.
A harmful amount of vinyl chloride was in the water due to what many believe was a faulty air vacuum that is a key piece of city water equipment.
For one reason or another, many townspeople do not trust the water to this day, and many are waiting for funds to fix the problem.
