LABUAN: Some 20,000 water consumers here will benefit from the replacement of 50 km of obsolete and worn pipes that have been in use for more than 40 years. Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim said the replacement of the old pipes will be phased. He said this in response to a question from Labuan Datuk Rozman Isli MP in Parliament. Tuan Ibrahim said the program was started under the Rolling Plan (RP) of the 12th Malaysian Plan and that a sum of RM 202.65 million has been allocated for it.

The replacement would concern asbestos-cement, cast iron / galvanized iron pipes. These would be replaced with better quality ductile iron, mild steel cement pipes and high density polyethylene. The program would cover the following areas:

  • Jalan Mohd Salleh to Simpang Bukit Kallan, Jalan Sg Beduan to Shell Terminal, Jalan Bukit Timbalai-Simpang Sg Pagar and Jalan Bebuluh-bersimpang Sg Tada. The call for tenders for the project is open.
  • Jalan Patau2 from Simpang Jalan Rancha 2 to Simpang Jalan Rancha 2 and Pulau Eno. The call for tenders would open in December 2021.
  • The aquatic villages of Kg Air Patau 1, Kg Air Patau 2 and Kampung Air Bebuloh. Negotiated call for tenders closed in November 2021.
  • Jalan Batu Manikar will be released after approval is obtained and the tender would be early next year.
